Frequently Asked Questions

What is FAST?

FAST stands for Foundational Aviation Skills Training and is a quick 4-week program offering specialized training in one of five different streams: Private Pilot Ground School, Advanced Drone Piloting, Customer Service, Ramp Services, and Flight Attendant.

What streams are available?

Off-Ground Streams

  • Private Pilot Ground School
  • Flight Attendant
  • Advanced Drone Operation (RPAS)
  • Customer Service Agent
  • Ramp Services

What is the program like?

You will be learning in a classroom setting taught by subject matter experts with access to various hands-on and role playing opportunities to get the most immersive experience possible. You will also focus on workplace skills enhancement and work with an employment coach to ensure you are prepared to get a job and retain your job.

What does it cost?

The program is free.

The Elevate Aviation Learning Centre offers aviation training funded by the Government of Alberta to provide no-cost programming to help individuals reach their career goals and learn more about the aviation industry.

Who is this program for?

This program is open to everyone, but priority will be given to those who identify as women and those who are traditionally underrepresented in the industry.

Note that there is a maximum capacity of 12 students per session, and for the Private Pilot Ground School stream specifically, 4 students per session.

How do I apply?

To apply for the FAST program:

  1. Complete the Inquiry Form above
  2. You will be sent an automatic email reply with some information and an Application Form and Career Investigation Report (CIR) for you to fill out

You must complete both the Application Form AND Career Investigation Report before proceeding to the next step

  2. You may be invited to a pre-program Interview

When does this program run?

Please refer to the website for the start dates of each focus stream.

For more information on future sessions, please see the information above under “Program Details”.

Can I take more than one stream?

Please apply for only one program/stream to begin with, and after completion of your first program, you can apply for another program/stream if you wish.

That said, our goal at EALC is to help you develop the specific employment skills needed for you to enter the aviation industry. Hopefully, you will take one program/stream and gain the confidence to apply for work!

Note that priority will be given to first time-learners.

Will I get a job after I complete the program?

While we do have high success for students searching for work after they complete a program with the EALC, it is not the metric we’re basing our success on. Through one-on-one career coaching, we help you develop the confidence and skills required to enter the aviation industry, but we do not do job placements.

Are there any prerequisites for the program?

There are specific prerequisites to obtain your Private Pilot’s License (Class 3 Medical Certificate), but through our Ground School stream, you are not required to have this to enroll in the course.

To work airside at any airport, you will need to pass a background security check called the Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC). Please, DO NOT apply for a RAIC when applying for our programs. The RAIC is only required after being hired for an airport position. You can find more information about the RAIC here.
