The aviation industry in Alberta is experiencing significant growth, with companies like WestJet and Flair Airlines expanding operations and new developments in other aviation organizations on the rise such as with Lufthansa Technik in Calgary. This surge has created a high demand for skilled professionals across various aviation roles. To meet this need and provide accessible training opportunities, Elevate Aviation Learning Centre offers the Building Aviation Skills and Industry Competence (BASIC) Program, a fully funded, five-week initiative designed to introduce participants to key aviation career paths.
What Is the BASIC Program?
The BASIC Program is tailored for individuals in Alberta seeking to explore careers in aviation. It provides foundational skills training and industry-specific certifications, preparing participants for roles such as:
- Customer Service Agent
- Flight Attendant
- Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME)
- Ground Handling
- Air Traffic Management
The program allows for either in-person and virtual learning, ensuring flexibility and accessibility for all participants. Training includes hands-on experiences with aviation professionals, career and employment coaching, resume writing, interview skills workshops, and opportunities to obtain industry-recognized certifications such as:
- Restricted Operator Certificate – Aeronautical (ROC-A)
- First Aid and CPR Certification
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)

Each session accommodates up to 18 participants and is held at the Elevate Aviation Learning Centre located at the Edmonton International Airport.
